Your RFA Letter-Writing Campaign
Keep in mind that we're less than 3 months from race day. That means if you haven't started your fundraising, it's time to start moving! The perfect time to start is right after you get registered.
Before approaching your networks, you need to formulate "your ask". Instead of just "will you donate?" make clear why you are passionate about this raising funds for desmoid tumor research. There's a greater chance your connections will support you if they understand RFA/DTRF's value to you.
When approaching your networks, use the following questions to start a conversation:
Why am I fundraising?
Why is/are (the Patient Meeting and) RFA important to me?
Why is supporting DTRF important to me?
Sharing your journey with desmoid tumors and how it's affected you as a patient or caregiver is a key part of conveying the urgency of your ask. If you've attended these events before, you may also want to include why the experience was important to you. When you share this, you give your loved ones a special opportunity, a way to support you on this journey.
Here's a sample letter to get you started:
I am writing to ask for your support in helping me raising awareness for the Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation, a foundation that is devoted solely to funding research for rare, desmoid tumors. I will be participating in the upcoming race, Running for Answers 5K run/walk in September and raising funds to help the cause. Would you be willing to support me in this effort?
